Your First Appointment
Your first appointment will start with a detailed medical history to get all the necessary information about your presenting problem.
After taking your medical history, your therapist will complete a physical assessment to help to establish what the issue is. They will then explain the findings of the assessment to you and answer any questions you have.
This process enables your therapist to develop a treatment and rehabilitation plan designed specifically for you.
Physical Assessment
Depending on the nature of your problem, it may be necessary to remove some layers of clothing. It’s important that you are comfortable and that your therapist can see the problem area well. It is advisable to bring your own shorts and/or singlet.
Your therapist will then observe as you do some basic movements. They may also assist you to move your limbs to assess flexibility and strength.
Please provide your therapist with feedback on how you are feeling during the physical assessment. This will help them to determine the cause of your problem.
Treatment
Your therapist has a number of treatment techniques to choose from, including:
Soft tissue work
Joint mobilisations to help to increase range of motion
Exercise prescription - exercises can be tailored to your lifestyle, from easy to perform home exercises, to gym exercises and return to sport programs.
Advice and education
Your therapist will provide you with a treatment plan based on the findings from your medical history and physical assessment. If there is a treatment that you would prefer not to engage in, please let your therapist know.
